Atanarjuat, the Fast Runner is Canada’s first feature-length fiction film written, produced, directed and acted by Inuit. A legend shared throughout the years is brought to life through this tale that holds the viewer spellbound. Two families are torn apart when an evil shaman visits to find his next victim. Choosing a family, he begins with the children. From the daughter with wandering eyes to the brothers who feel life is unjust. When the lead (Atanarjuat) runs for his life, escaping over the vast horizon he is left to ponder. Can he gather the courage to return to his community facing possible death, or should he continue running. Shot capturing the haunting beauty of Igloolik, director Zacharias Kunuk creates a community that must learn to put the needs of the group before the needs of one.
