Inuit have hunted bowhead whales for thousands of years, using stone tools to hunt these 25 tonne mammals. In 2016, Igloolik received a tag to harvest a bowhead; the filmmakers document this hunt, shedding light on this rich history and culture of Inuit whale hunting.


Carol Kunnuk (Inuk) is an actress and director, known for Anaana (2001), The Journals of Knud Rasmussen (2006) and Uvanga (2013).

Zacharias Kunuk (Inuk) is a renowned filmmaker whose dramatic feature films include “Atanarjuat The Fast Runner,” which won the Camera d’Or at Cannes. Zach is the winner of a National Arts Award, the National Aboriginal Achievement Award and was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2005.
