1st ANNUAL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM: CALL FOR APPLICANTS in NEW BRUNSWICK

Make a short film for imagineNATIVE 2013 and Silver Wave 2013!

Application Deadline: Monday, February 11, 2013 by 5:00PM

Are you an emerging Indigenous media artist living in New Brunswick? Do you have a great idea for a 5 minute short film? Explore Digital or Bolex filmmaking through NBFC’s workshops, equipment and facilities. Shoot and edit your ideas to film, and see them on screen at the 14th annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival and the Silver Wave Film Festival (imagineNATIVE takes place in Toronto from October 16–20, 2013 and Silver Wave Film Festival takes place November 7-10, 2013)

You will be provided with a full NBFC Membership, and be eligible to enroll in any training workshop offered during their Winter and Summer 2013 calendar of workshops. You will be paired with NBFC’S knowledgeable staff and a specially selected mentor is needed to help you through your various development, production and post-production stages.

The participant will receive the opportunity to use the NBFC’s extensive equipment and facilities for their film. As every film is unique, equipment and facilities access will be established in the development phase at the NBFC’s discretion.

The successful applicant will receive a $1,000 bursary for a commission fee and towards production costs. All other additional equipment, facilities, and production costs will be the responsibility of the participant.

Please note: Projects must be realistic in scope and subject matter as they must be completed and on tape by September 25, 2013.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • This call is open to emerging candidates of Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit) heritage living in New Brunswick.
  • Candidates must commit to attending the NBFC training workshops from Feb –August 2013. We strongly encourage applicants who are deadline driven and self-starters.
  • Individuals who will be working on existing commissions received by or through imagineNATIVE for the 2013 festival are not eligible to apply for this project.
  • Preference will be given to artists who have not had the opportunity to work in film (Note: you do not have to be a youth, but youth may also apply)
  • You must live in NB within commuting distance of Fredericton in order to access NBFC workshops and equipment. Travel subsidy and cost of living are NOT covered by this mentorship.

Your Application Must Include:

  • One-page short film idea
  • A half to one-page statement on why you would like to participate and how you would benefit from this mentorship
  •  Your bio (no resumes or CVs please). Please be certain to indicate your past experience with film, video and other artistic mediums, if any, and your Indigenous affiliation

The NB Film Co-op is a non-profit, charitable organization involved in the production of 16mm and digital films. It is into its 33rd year of operation! The Co-op provides broad-ranging support (workshops/training, creative support and mentoring, grant writing assistance, equipment, human resources, socials, informal writer/director/actor labs.
