A rare opportunity to work at one of Canada’s leading arts organizations for its 19th annual Festival October 17-21, 2018 and Industry Days October 15-19, 2018.

Compensation:  $7,000 per contract

(2 days a week in August and September, 32 hours a week first two weeks of October, and Festival hours October 12-26)

The annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival – the world’s largest presenter of Indigenous screen content – is seeking a dynamic individual with a genuine interest and passion for event planning and execution. Now entering its 19th year, imagineNATIVE has established itself as an important fixture of the ever-growing local, national and international Indigenous film and media arts community. Located in a beautiful arts-focused building at 401 Richmond Street West in Toronto, imagineNATIVE is a community-based festival and charity committed to the development and promotion of Indigenous artists and their work. The duties and responsibilities of the Events Manager include but are not limited to:

Under the supervision and guidance of the Artistic+Managing Director (and in consultation with the Events + Marketing Committee), the Events Manager will plan, manage & coordinate events for the Festival, including:

 

  • Book equipment, talent, catering, technical personnel, supplies, and marketing materials for all Festival non-screening events including:

  • Press Launch

  • Welcome Gathering

  • Opening Night Gala including Party

  • Happy-hour Receptions

  • Art Crawl

  • The Beat

  • Awards Presentation

  • Closing Night Gala

  • Closing Delegates Only Gathering

 

  • Implement the vision for each event in conjunction with the Artistic+Managing Director and Events + Marketing Committee, including (but not limited to) event logistics, themes, programming, communications, budget and coordination with the board of directors and other management as appropriate;

  • Create and revise room layouts for each event;

  • Create and revise event agendas/run of show for each event;

  • Liaise and consult with service providers including venue managers, caterers, talent and any other personnel associated with Festival events;

  • Negotiate the type and costs of services to be provided within a budget, and arrange payments/cheques for such services and talent;

  • Manage the movement of all equipment, talent, staff, volunteers, supplies, marketing materials, etc. associated with all Festival events;

  • Liaise with the Technical Coordinator and Operations Manager to coordinate the movement of equipment including speakers, projectors, screens, etc. as needed;

  • Organize the set-up and tear-down of all Festival event locations with attention to layout, seating and décor and integrate the annual design campaign into events aesthetics;

  • Ensure in advance, the functionality of all technical and décor elements at each event including lighting, sound, projections, slides, hangings, etc.;

  • Ensure that adequate staff, board members and/or volunteers are assigned to all duties associated with events, venues and catering;

  • Run and manage each event during the Festival and act as the point-person for, volunteers, suppliers, service providers and talent;

  • Find solutions to problems concerning services, events or personnel and immediately advise senior management on matters requiring their attention;

  • Oversee Events Assistants and volunteers;

  • Assist as a team-member with basic administrative duties to ensure the office environment is professional and efficient;

  • Post-Festival reporting;

  • Work directly with volunteers, artists and Board Members.
