(Toronto) – The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival will celebrate its 11th year with the festival running October 20 – 24, 2010 at the Al Green Theatre and various other venues in downtown Toronto. imagineNATIVE celebrates new works by Indigenous people on the forefront of innovation in film, video, radio and new media.
The Festival will kick off at 1:00pm at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto with welcomes from imagineNATIVE, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and Indigenous artists of the world, a traditional welcoming song, and traditional North American Indigenous food.
“imagineNATIVE is situated at the intersection of ideas, issues, narratives and contemporary realities of Indigenous peoples from around the world,” states Executive Director, Jason Ryle. “What these film and media makers are doing is constructing history in engaging, entertaining and beautiful ways.”
This year’s international spotlight will be on Taiwan, a nation of fascinating histories and socio-political dynamics. Home to 14 distinct Indigenous nations, Taiwan is a place we’ve all heard of, but know little about.
New Media continues to exert a strong presence in our lives and in the Festival. Through gallery-based exhibitions, public interventions and web based activity, this year’s new media programming promises to be exciting, innovative and challenging.
Admission to the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival is $7 - $100 or free - and all ages are welcome. Activities run all day from 11:00 am until 2:00 am, and include film screenings, exhibits, artist talks, performances and music … really, something for everyone.
