Based in northern Manitoba, Norway House’s school has become a leading role model for Indigenous primary and secondary education in Canada, blending Cree and Western pedagogies into a system that puts the children’s well-being at its core. A long-time advocate for the rights of Indigenous children, Alanis crafts another stirring documentary that informs as it delights while reminding us of the power and beauty of young people.
Alanis Obomsawin (Abenaki) is one of the world’s leading documentarists and a living legend of Indigenous Cinema. Her astounding body of work has left an indelible impact on the Canadian psyche and she remains a leading force in film production in this country. An activist filmmaker, Alanis has always been driven by a desire to give Indigenous peoples a voice. Her list of accomplishments is profound and include memberships in the Order of Canada and the Canadian Film & Television Hall of Fame. A tireless force, Alanis continues to develop and direct new projects.
