The imagineNATIVE Indigenous Screenwriting Intensive builds upon the success of imagineNATIVE’s 2014 Screenwriter Lab initiative, now revamped as a year-round initiative of the new imagineNATIVE Institute.
The Intensive supports four Indigenous screenwriters, two residing in Canada and two residing internationally. Through a year-long development program, an original feature film script will be developed by each applicant - from treatment through to first draft and final writing stages, to packaging and polishing. With a focus on potential optioning, the 2018 Intensive culminated in a live public reading of script excerpts, sponsored by ACTRA Toronto, for general audience and Industry professionals at the imagineNATIVE Festival.
Indigenous story editors will support the writers’ projects at each stage and throughout the process. Screenwriters in the program will receive financial support to dedicate themselves to the stages of script development, with stipends at the completion of key milestones.
