17-year-old Thomas is escorted home by police. Arriving home Thomas is confronted by a domineering mother Marlene who isn’t interested in his side of the story. As deflection and punishment Marlene forces Thomas into their backyard and gives him a chore to do. But punishment turns into reflection for Thomas as sounds from the neighbouring house enter his conscious world triggering him to make a life changing decision.


Michael Hudson (Bangarang/Yorta Yorta) is an emerging writer & director hailing from Shepparton in Victoria Australia. Ties That Bind is his second short film after self funding, writing and producing his first film Leonids in 2016. He was the recipient of the Event Cinemas Best Australian Short Screenplay Award at the 2019 Sydney Film Festival for Ties That Bind.
