This award-winning film powerfully confronts the colonial gaze found in European art. Using Picasso’s Girl with Mandolin as a platform, director Fabiano Mixo places a strong woman as the focal point within the fractured confines of the Cubist style, redirecting the colonial lens.

Originally from Brazil, Fabiano Mixo is a multimedia artist and film director based in Berlin. He studied art, media, film and communications in Rio de Janeiro. He is currently developing the video installation Letters to Lumière (360° short films), which will be shown in 2016 at the Museum of Arts and Technology Oi Futuro in Rio de Janeiro.
